Hop onto The Baghdaddies magic carpet for an amazing musical trip traversing the globe. Their wild mix of Balkan brass, Middle Eastern flavours, ska and dance beats is totally infectious. A Baghdaddies gig promotes a healthy increase in heart rate, inducing an irresistible urge to dance uncontrollably and smile benignly on your fellow man and woman. The band formed in 1996 and since then have released four albums with the latest, ‘KATCHYAZAFTA’, set to eclipse the success of their award winning 3rd CD ‘Random Acts of Kindness’. The Baghdaddies live shows have become legendary and they have amassed a dedicated following both in the UK and Europe. The Baghdaddies infusion of Roma wedding music with shades of Klezmer, reggae, ska, calypso, jazz and punk laced with funky dance grooves and blistering eastern brass harmonies is pure incitement to party. The Balkan gypsy-influenced repertoire is performed at breakneck speed with extraordinary tightness and virtuoso performances on sax, trumpet, guitar, bass and drums. As one reviewer remarked; 'this band from the souk-infested, mint tea-drinking side of Newcastle ... even had the audience clapping along in seven-eight time', and it's a testament to their funky skills that they make such complex rhythms irresistibly accessible to one and all.’ The Baghdaddies have become firm festival favourites, but are equally at home raising the roof at a club night, a village hall, a wedding or in the streets. This is party music for the masses! |
