Introducing ...........
SARAH SAVOY from Louisiana - the latest off-spring of Marc and Ann Savoy to continue the family's Cajun heritage - with her French group, The Francadians. Louisiana-born and raised daughter of Marc and Ann Savoy, the most influential names in Cajun music, Sarah powerfully fronts this band of dedicated French musicians. Sarah doesn't just perform traditional Cajun and Zydeco music - her own original compositions speak with a voice until now virtually unheard in Cajun music. Sarah sings in celebration of the modern woman, strong, independent, and fun-loving, rather than only lamenting the traditional position of la femme abandonnée (”the abandoned woman”). Keeping her audiences dancing, Sarah belts out sassy blues, growls through honky-tonk-inspired Cajun songs of the 1940’s and 50’s, and wails the bitterness of some of Cajun music's most forlorn waltzes. Sarah is also a qualified Louisiana chef and can lead cooking workshops, accompanied by music guaranteed to whet the appetite. Sarah's brother, Wilson, brought his Pine Leaf Boys over to the UK last summer and left such a great impression that we just had to take on Sarah. Now based in Paris, Sarah and her band are available for bookings in the UK and throughout Europe. |
Cookin’ Cajun Sarah Savoy & the Francadians offer the complete experience of a down-home party in Louisiana. Sarah teaches cooking demonstrations while relating stories from home, telling jokes, and sharing memories of growing up in a family of some of the biggest names in Cajun music and Cajun culture. While dishes such as Chicken and Sausage Sauce Piquant, Shrimp Creole, Crawfish Etoufée, Seafood Gumbo, and Jambalaya simmer on the stovetop, Sarah and her band either perform for the demonstration attendees or invite them to join in a jam session of traditional Cajun songs. Between semesters at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Liberal Arts and Visual Arts, Sarah earned her chef’s certification at another Lafayette school. She has been cooking with her father and his friends since she was a very small child.
