SPIKEDRIVERS

As soon as the Spikedrivers strike up you’re transported – suddenly you're at their house, sittin’ on the front porch, havin' a beer and feelin' good. Whether laying down a bump 'n' grind shuffle, a toe-tappin' two step or a slow smokey blues, these three musicians together create something to be enjoyed without holding back. A sound, an atmosphere and a feeling..... They call it delta roots.

Spikedrivers frontman and founder Ben Tyzack picked up his passion for the blues while growing up in the deep south, Charleston, South Carolina. Once he heard the likes of Big Bill Broonzy, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Doc Watson in his fathers record collection the decision to play guitar was an easy one. He discovered the blues while working in the basement of a record store in Atlanta, Georgia. After years playing in bands honing his fingerpicking and slide playing, Ben decided to start a project based around his love for early blues. He formed the Spikedrivers in 1992 and he continues to bring a fresh and contemporary feel to a vintage music through his own songwriting.

Californian, Constance Redgrave adds bass guitar and vocals. Constance learned her craft at the Music Institute of Technology in Los Angeles. Her obvious talent landed her a gig with ‘Christian Death’ who were just about to leave on a European tour. Now living in London she has gone on to play with Otis Grand’s Big Blues Band, the legendary Steve Cropper, Joe Louis Walker, Hank Wangford and many, many others.

Maurice McElroy makes up the trio, with drums and vocals. A ‘veteran blues drummer’ according to Blueprint Magazine, Maurice originally hails from Belfast. Nicknamed ‘the Groove Meister’ by the guitarist from the Earl Green Band, his credits include Otis Grand, Larry Garner, Philip Walker, Robert Ward, Guitar Shorty, Wes McGhee and, of course, the Earl Green Band.
